The New England VOW Tournament is History: Good Cause, Good Time ... The first annual Tab Benoit Voice of the Wetlands golf tournament was held on May 24th in Bellingham, Massachusetts. Eighty-five golfers came out to support VOW and enjoy a competitive scramble at hilly New England Country Club. Afterwards, Tab rocked the full house at Chan's, and more money was raised at a (not-so) silent auction and raffle. So far $9,200 Raised for VOW ... After all was said and done — Tab's New England fans (and friends of fans) had come up with a net contribution of about $9,200. (Update: the official tally was $9,850.) All this during Memorial Day weekend and a slumping economy. It just goes to show what a group of committed people can get done. There are many people to thank for the great turnout and results: volunteers, donors, sponsors, golfers, auction participants, and especially Tab, for his tireless work (and play!) on behalf of the Louisiana wetlands.
The winning team, with a sizzling score of 12-under consisted of Bob, Richard and Paul Cournoyer, along with Ted Shannon. Bob confessed to having the home course advantage, since he grew up across the street from NECC and once surveyed property! Congratulations to Team Cournoyer. In second place was the Tab Team, which included Ray "Raybo" Harrison, George Pirie (a 3-time RI State Amateur champion) and Dennis Parker (of West Virginia). In third place was the foursome of Kenny Mernick, Gerry Roch, David Holmes and John Keenan. Longest drive was by Peter Lyman and closest to the pin was Joe Timm. See event photos >
First place Team Cournoyer. Thanks to Auction Participants Thanks to the following people for their generous bids on the "big-ticket" items in the VOW auction:
